It: An Introduction (...or Reminder?)
Up first: “It” by Stephen King. The town of Derry, Maine, is wholesome, quaint, and hiding a monstrous secret. That secret, IT, feeds on the town's fears and threatens to tear Derry apart. That is until a ragtag bunch of children – and later adults – confront IT.

I bet I know what you are thinking!
- Hasn’t It been done enough already?
Probably. There is this book, of course. The made-for-TV movie, “It” in 1990. CLASSIC. Tim Curry (RIP) as Pennywise?! He made me terrified of clowns as a kid – and now haha. Then, the double feature films - “It” (2017) and “It: Chapter Two” (2019). Now, there is “It: Welcome to Derry” (2025), which is set to have at least two more seasons. If Tim Curry's Pennywise was creepy, Bill Skarsgård's version is pure nightmare fuel, honey!
Can I possibly add anything new to the conversation? Probably not.
Am I going to talk about it anyway? Absolutely.
- Wasn’t “It” actually published in 1986?
Yes, actually. It was published in September 1986, so It has technically already turned 40. I see you, Vintage!. It (no pun intended) is on my list, though, because it was still the #1 bestseller in the first week of January. That was the only week in 1987 that it was #1, but it dominated the #1 in 1986 and remained on the bestseller list for a total of 20 weeks in 1987.
- Isn’t that a really long book?
Yes. A whopping 1,152 pages.
Pray for me.
The struggle is real, but the journey is fun.
- Don’t you worry about the “controversial” part of the book?
Honestly, I didn't even know the controversy existed until recently. Since I've never read It before, I haven't reached the section in question yet and can't really offer an informed opinion. When I do, I'll share my honest thoughts. One thing I try to do with this project is approach each book with curiosity, not assumptions. So, I'll reserve judgment until I experience it for myself.

So far, I'm enjoying the journey through Derry, even if it's taking me a while to get there. At 1,152 pages, this book is less of a weekend read and more of a long-term commitment.
I'll be back soon with a full review and plenty of thoughts about Pennywise, small-town secrets, and whether this monster-sized bestseller was worth the hype.
Until then, stay curious.
